Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It's known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. In Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canalside communities and the iconic temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew). Nearby beach resorts include bustling Pattaya and fashionable Hua Hin. ― Google

In Myanmar, fighting between the army and ethnic armed group, Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), has intensified in Myawaddy province. As a result, thousands of people have been displaced to neighboring Thailand. According to media reports, approximately 4,000 to 8,000 refugees, including 800 children, have fled to Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts of Tak province in Thailand.

On 6 April, over 5,400 people were reported to have sought refuge in temporary shelters set up by authorities across 10 areas in Tak province. Many are also waiting to cross into Thailand via the Moei river. However, the refugees are facing a shortage of basic necessities, such as drinking water and toilets.

Authorities and volunteers are working to provide food, water, and medicine to the displaced people. The fighting has continued, which has prompted the evacuation of local residents as well.

The situation has caught the attention of DG ECHO, which is closely monitoring the developments. The European Union's Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) provides assistance to people affected by disasters or conflicts around the world.

The fighting between the Myanmar army and KNLA has been ongoing for years, and it has caused a significant humanitarian crisis in the country. The displacement of thousands of people to neighboring countries like Thailand is a clear indication of the severity of the situation. The international community is urged to provide assistance and support to those affected by the conflict.
