Heatwave in North Eastern States

  • In the past three days, an extreme heatwave in the Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh has claimed the lives of almost 98 individuals. Bihar recorded 44 deaths, while Uttar Pradesh reported 54 deaths, mostly in the Balia district.
  • Indian Meteorological Department issued red alert warning for extreme heatwaves in State Jharkhand. 
  • As a result, the state administrations extended the closure of schools until end of June.
