Heavy rainfall has been wreaking havoc on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines, specifically in the Soccsksargen and Davao Regions, since July 2. The continuous downpour has led to severe flooding and caused the Kraan River to overflow, resulting in significant damage to the affected areas.
According to reports from the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) and DSWD DROMIC, as of July 5, approximately 5,150 individuals have been affected in the Santa Cruz Municipality of Davao del Sur Province in the Davao Region. Similarly, around 4,750 people have been affected in the Palimbang Municipality of Sultan Kudarat Province in the Soccsksargen Region.
Unfortunately, the situation is expected to worsen over the next 24 hours as more heavy rainfall, including locally very heavy rainfall, is predicted across the entirety of Mindanao Island. This forecast raises concerns about additional flooding and potential damage to the already affected areas, exacerbating the ongoing crisis.
