Puerto Rico drought triggers rotating water rationing
Puerto Rico introduced rotating water rationing in August 2026 as severe drought depleted reservoirs. More than 180,000 people were expected to lose water for 48 hours at a time. Nearly 25 percent of the territory was experiencing severe drought and a further 36 percent moderate drought, with dry conditions forecast to persist until September.
