In Cabo Delgado, Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs) have continued its march southward into the district of Chiure (5-12 June), threatening the provincial capital Pemba and attacking vulnerable civilians in Ancuabe district on the way - killing civilians, burning houses and looting food supplies.
Fear of attacks and subsequent confirmed attacks in Ancuabe district by NSAGs triggered the movements of at least 17,691 individuals in Cabo Delgado (2-14 June). Further displacement are expected in the upcoming days and the UN is getting prepared to potentially respond to the needs of up to 50,000 newly displaced.
The 2022 Humanitarian Response Plan for Cabo Delgado seeks USD 388.5 million (only 17% funded) to provide life-saving and life-sustaining humanitarian assistance and protection to the most vulnerable. The UN have issued a warning about a possible disruption in the supply of humanitarian aid in Cabo Delgado.
World Food Programme (WFP) urgently needs USD 86 million to feed at least 940,000 people over a six-month period. WFP is currently distributing half rations, funding shortfalls may further affect the provision of food security and livelihoods assistance in July.
