Over the past days, almost 40 forest fires have affected 14 provinces of northern Algeria, resulting in casualties and damage.

According to media reports, at least 26 people have died, 24 of whom in El Tarf province and two in Sétif province (north-eastern Algeria). In addition, 350 residents have been evacuated in various provinces.

According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), on 18-19 August, the fire risk will be extreme over northern-central Algeria, and from moderate to very high over the north-eastern and north-western areas.
