The newly formed Tropical Cyclone NANMADOL is moving west-south-west over the Philippine Sea, towards the Ryukyu Islands (southern Japan). On 16 September at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 500 km east of Daito Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 204 km/h.
NANMADOL is expected to strengthen as it moves north-west over the Philippine Sea. It is forecast to pass first north of Daito Islands in the early morning of 17 September, and reach the central Ryukyu Islands in the early morning of 18 September, with maximum sustained winds up to 213 km/h.
Red warnings for high waves have been issued for Daito Islands, where moderate to heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast on 16-17 September.
