
An earthquake of 5.8 M (6.1 M as reported by national authorities) at a depth of 48 km occurred in Tambo Grande District (Piura Region, north-western Peru) on 5 October at 8.26 UTC (3.26 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 12 km east of Sullana City and 50 km south-west of the border with Ecuador.
The National Institute of Peru (IGP) reports at least five aftershocks of magnitude up to 4 M in the area.
USGS PAGER estimates that more than 1 million people were exposed to moderate shaking.
According to media reports, at least one person died while two others have been injured.
