On 4 October, a snow avalanche occurred in the mountainous District of Uttarkashi (northern Uttarakhand, northern India) resulting in 16 fatalities and 15 people missing, as reported by the Indian Disaster Management Division (NDMI). Search and rescue teams deployed to the area have been able to safely rescue 30 people, but operations are hindered by snowfall.
On 5 October, flash floods due to the sudden overflow of Mal River were reported in the Jalpaiguri District of West Bengal (north-eastern India). According to media reports, at least eight people have died and 15 others sustained injuries. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
On 7-8 October, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast over Uttarakhand, while light to locally moderate rainfall is expected over West Bengal.
