An earthquake of 5.4 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in north-western East Sepik Province (north-western Papua New Guinea) on 9 October at 21.10 UTC (10 October 7.10 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 40 km north-northeast of Ambunti Town and 90 km southwest of Wewak City (East Sepik Province).
USGS PAGER estimates that up to 1,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 32,000 to strong shaking.
According to media reports, there are no reports of any casualties or damage.
