Cyclonic storm 'Mandous’ maintains its intensity of severe cyclonic storm until morning of 9 December then dissipated. In India, Tamil Nadu and neighbouring areas were impacted by heavy rainfall.
The Tamil Nadu government closed schools and colleges in several districts due to the heavy rain forecast. At least 12 teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Relief Force were deployed in 10 districts. There were five deaths, 151 houses damaged. Around 10,000 people who were evacuated prior to the cyclone landfall returned to their homes.
In Sri Lanka, according to the Disaster Management Center (DMC), heavy rains and high wind had resulted in three people dead, 25 injured and 6,218 shelters damaged. The government has initiated a response to the affected communities.
