Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting central Indonesia (in particular Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi Islands) since 17 December, causing floods, rivers overflow and strong wind-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
The ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports, as of 19 December, one fatality, more than 600 affected people and over 120 damaged houses across the South Lampung regency (Lampung province, southern Sumatra) due to strong wind. Nearly 1,300 affected people were also reported in the neighbouring West Java province, due to floods. In addition, ADINet reports one fatality, nearly 8,000 affected people and approximately 3,000 damaged houses across the northern Sulawesi Island (gorontalo, and North Sulawesi Provinces), also in this case due to floods.
Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi Islands
