In Zambia since January 11, 2023, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms affected central-southern localities. The floods have caused severe damage and casualties, with the Southern Province being the worst affected. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has reported more than 22,000 affected people and 500 displaced families in the Kalomo, Namwala, and Choma Districts in the Southern Province. There have also been reports of damaged homes, bridges, and isolated communities. More heavy rainfall is expected to occur across the country, with the Central Province expected to receive locally very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
