Cyclone Yaku has caused widespread devastation in various regions of Peru. The cyclone, which made landfall on March 9th, has caused several deaths, injuries, and extensive damage to infrastructure. The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the impact of Cyclone Yaku in Peru.

Fatalities and Injuries:

As a result of Cyclone Yaku, six people have died in the Piura and Lambayeque Departments. Moreover, five people are reported missing in Lambayeque due to the increase in the flow of La Leche River. The landslides in Huancabamba (Piura Department) have blocked the main road, which has led to 70,000 inhabitants being isolated.

State of Emergency:

In response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Yaku, the government has declared a state of emergency in various provinces of Ancash, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Piura, Arequipa, and Tumbes departments. The declaration of a state of emergency will provide much-needed support to the affected communities.

Support Mechanisms:

Several support mechanisms have been activated by Indeci, the Armed Forces, Police, and the Ministries of Housing and Transport. These mechanisms are working together to provide assistance to those affected by Cyclone Yaku. The authorities are working tirelessly to restore essential services and transport links in the affected areas.

Cyclone Yaku has caused significant damage and loss of life in Peru. The response of the government and emergency services has been swift and effective, and support mechanisms have been activated to assist those affected by the cyclone. The coming days and weeks will be critical in terms of ensuring that the affected communities receive the necessary support to recover and rebuild.
