In the wake of heavy rainfall over central Indonesia, particularly the Java Island, since 30 April, flooding has led to population displacement and destruction of property. According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), nearly 30 people have been displaced, over 70 houses have been damaged, and a total of approximately 380 people have been affected across the West Java and East Java Provinces as of 3 May.
With more heavy rainfall forecast over the Java Island in the next 24 hours, authorities are on high alert and have issued warnings to residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions. The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) has urged residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate to higher ground or safer locations.
The heavy rainfall has caused rivers to overflow their banks, leading to flooding in low-lying areas. Emergency services have been working round-the-clock to rescue affected individuals and to provide them with food and shelter. The Indonesian Red Cross has also dispatched relief teams to the affected areas to provide assistance and support to those in need.
The situation remains critical, and the authorities have advised residents to stay informed about the weather conditions and to follow the instructions of the local authorities. The ADINet has also alerted neighboring countries to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall is expected to continue across central Indonesia in the coming days.
