The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, is calling for urgent humanitarian efforts to support displaced people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) following recurring attacks by armed groups. The DRC is one of Africa's most complex and long-standing humanitarian crises, with 6.2 million internally displaced people and over 1.3 million Congolese seeking refuge in other African countries. Since March 2022, 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes in the eastern DRC's North Kivu Province due to clashes between armed groups and government forces. The lack of infrastructure and sanitation in displacement sites has led to significant health threats, such as cholera and measles. UNHCR requires $233 million to respond to the needs of displaced people in the DRC this year but has only received 15% of that amount.
