A state of emergency has been declared as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy made landfall on the Indian Gujarat coast, striking the Jakhau port and surrounding areas with tremendous force. The cyclone, categorized as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS), is now expected to move northeastward and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm by morning, followed by further weakening into a depression by evening.
Pakistan is also bracing for the impact of Biparjoy, as heavy rainfall and a storm surge of two meters have already wreaked havoc. Low-lying areas and settlements in four districts, namely Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, and Karachi, have been inundated with water, posing significant threats to the affected population.
In response to the impending disaster, the Government has taken swift action, relocating over 81,000 individuals to 64 relief camps across the region. Out of the total 75 relief camps established, 5,000 people have been evacuated from Malir District, while 31,030, 23,696, and 22,200 individuals have been relocated from Badin, Sujawal, and Thatta Districts, respectively.
Authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the cyclone. Efforts are focused on providing essential supplies, medical aid, and shelter to those displaced by the storm's destructive path. Disaster response teams are on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and coordinating rescue operations.
As Biparjoy continues to impact the region, it is crucial for residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and follow the instructions and guidelines issued by local authorities. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as the cyclone progresses.
