Two months after the start of the conflict in Sudan that has already displaced over 2.2 million people, the EU co-hosted – together with the United Nations, the African Union, Egypt, Germany, Qatar and Saudi Arabia – a high-level ministerial pledging event on 19 June to mobilise flexible financial resources for the humanitarian response in Sudan and neighbouring countries.
Donors announced about USD 1.5 billion in total, a third of which from the Team Europe contributions. This includes an additional EUR 60 million DG ECHO funding to respond to the consequences of the crisis in Sudan.
Humanitarian partners continue to report recurring challenges to the aid delivery including insecurity, transportation challenges and increasing bureaucratic impediments. Unhindered and unconditional access to the entire territory and population, at all times and irrespective of a ceasefire, remains crucial to provide a timely, effective and efficient humanitarian assistance.
