On June 30, a significant earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, according to the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) (6.4 magnitude as reported by the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure - BNPB), occurred offshore, approximately 80 kilometers south of the central-southern coast of Java Island. The earthquake, with a depth of 86 kilometers, struck at 12:57 UTC (19:57 local time). The epicenter was located around 100 kilometers south-southwest of Yogyakarta City. A total of 44 aftershocks were recorded in the region until July 1.

The seismic event impacted three provinces of Java: the Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, and Central Java. In the Special Region of Yogyakarta, at least one person lost their life, and ten others sustained injuries. Additionally, five families were displaced, and 106 others were affected by the earthquake. The disaster caused damage to 102 houses in the region.

In Central Java, a total of 102 families were affected by the earthquake, with 102 houses sustaining damage. In East Java, 14 families were impacted, and 37 houses were damaged as a result of the seismic activity.

In response to the situation, national and local authorities have initiated emergency response efforts and damage assessments. The Indonesian Red Cross Society has deployed personnel to assess the situation on the ground and coordinate with relevant stakeholders. Their presence aims to provide immediate assistance and support to those affected by the earthquake.

The government, in collaboration with humanitarian organizations, is working diligently to address the needs of the affected communities and provide relief to those impacted. The emergency response efforts include providing medical assistance, distributing essential supplies, and facilitating the relocation and sheltering of displaced families.

Authorities are conducting thorough damage assessments to determine the full extent of the destruction caused by the earthquake. This information will aid in developing comprehensive plans for the recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is essential for residents in the affected regions to remain vigilant and heed the instructions and guidance provided by local authorities. Preparedness and adherence to safety protocols will help mitigate further risks and ensure the well-being of individuals and communities in the aftermath of this seismic event.
