A magnitude 5.3 earthquake that struck Sigi District in Central Sulawesi Province on August 6 was swiftly followed by a staggering 33 aftershocks within a 24-hour period, sparking widespread damage and displacement. This seismic sequence has left its mark, with 28 houses destroyed and 256 individuals forced to flee their homes in the aftermath.
The impact of the tremors has reverberated beyond structural damage, affecting the lives of 3,141 people residing in two villages in Nokilaki District, as reported by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi. As the affected communities grapple with the aftermath, local authorities and disaster response teams have rallied to provide much-needed support.
The Central Sulawesi BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC), working in conjunction with the Sigi Regency BPBD and local village officials, is actively conducting thorough assessments of the affected areas. Their efforts are twofold: evaluating the extent of the destruction and offering assistance to those impacted.
