A flash flood caused by torrential rains in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar, on 5 August resulted in 4 deaths and 59 people being displaced in a temporary shelter. The flood has also damaged 246 houses and 12 entities. The power supply and road networks remain disrupted in the area.
The affected community is receiving on-site health and social protection services from the local government. On 7 August, the Mongolian government officially requested the UNRCO to assist in their efforts to mitigate the negative consequences of the disaster.
Humanitarian agencies in the country are monitoring the situation in case more assistance is required. DG ECHO has mobilised EUR 50,000 through the IFRC-DREF mechanism to support the immediate needs of people affected by the floods earlier in July.
