Heavy rainfall has affected the northern Himalayan States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, leading to casualties and significant damage. On 23 August, a landslide in Himachal Pradesh resulted in over 10 deaths, stranding 82 and damaging 121 houses. In Kullu district, multiple buildings collapsed.
Over the past month, floods and landslides in Himachal destroyed over 2,000 houses, damaged over 10,000 houses, and directly impacted 500,000 people, with 3 million affected indirectly. The Indian Meteorological Department warned of continued heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal and Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, in Mizoram State, an under-construction railway bridge platform collapsed on 23 August, killing 26 workers and injuring two. Rescue operations are ongoing, with government compensation announced for victims' families.
