Heavy rainfall has continued to impact Indonesia since August 30th, with devastating consequences for several provinces, including Aceh, North Maluku, and North Sumatra. The incessant downpours have led to severe flooding and extensive damage.
According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), the situation as of September 4th is as follows:
North Sumatra Province (Gunung Sitoli City):
- A total of 4,089 people have been affected by the flooding.
- Approximately 2,939 houses have sustained damage.
- The flooding primarily resulted from the overflow of several rivers, including Nou, Boyo, Idanoi, Afia, and Gido Sebua River.
North Maluku Province (Morotai Island):
- 1,449 individuals have been impacted by the floods on Morotai Island.
- Nearly 302 houses have been damaged.
Aceh Province (Simeulue Island):
- Across Teupah Barat, Simeulue Timur, and Teupah Tengah Districts, 485 people have been affected by flooding.
- Approximately 168 houses have been reported as damaged.
Looking ahead, weather forecasts indicate that over the next 24 hours, northern Indonesia is expected to experience more rainfall. Specifically, northern Sumatra Island is at risk of receiving locally heavy rainfall, further exacerbating the ongoing flood situation.
Local authorities and relief agencies are actively responding to the crisis, providing assistance to those affected and taking measures to mitigate the impact of the heavy rainfall and flooding.
Please stay tuned to local news sources and heed any evacuation orders or safety advisories issued by authorities as the situation develops.
