Over 60,000 people have evacuated their homes after several days of flooding in Jiangxi Province in southeast China.

According to the official state-run press agency Xinhua, flooding began in the province from 28 June 2021. As of 02 July, nearly 1.08 million people in 55 county-level areas had been affected. As many as 156 houses have been destroyed and 219 damaged. Provincial authorities have relocated 63,000 people. Flooding also damaged 70,300 hectares of crops.

Citing Jiangxi flood-relief headquarters, flood damages have resulted in direct economic losses of about 160.68 million U.S. dollars.

Nancheng, capital and largest city of Jiangxi Province, recorded 112.8 mm of rain in 24 hours to 28 June 2021. The city of Jingdezhen in the north east of the province recorded 185.8mm 24 hours to 01 July, 2021.

As of 03 July authorities report that Le’an River was above the danger mark in 3 location in Jiangxi Province. The Xinjiang river was also slightly above the danger mark near Yingtan.

Over 500,000 people were affected and almost 16,000 evacuated after flooding in the province in May this year.

Meanwhile flooding continues to affect wide areas of the north of the country, in particular Heilongjiang Province and parts of Inner Mongolia Region.
