Disaster authorities in the state of Assam, north eastern India, reported on 30 June that overflowing rivers have affected over 7,000 people in the last 24 hours.

A total of 7,587 people have been affected in Dhemaji and Dibrugarh districts. As of 30 June there were no displacements.

Flooding has also caused damage in Bongaigaon district including 13 roads and 4 bridges. Over 230 hectares of crops were also damaged in the district. One bridge and 867 hectares of crops were damaged in Dhemaji.

India’s Central Water Commission reports that rivers are currently above the danger mark in several locations in the state, including the Jiabharali river in Sonitpur district, the Desang river in Sivasagar district and the Brahmaputra river in Jorhat district. As of 30 June the Brahmaputra river at Neamati Ghat in Jorhat district stood at 85.78 metres, where danger level is 85.54 metres.
