Situation
OCHA’s Humanitarian Situation Report dated 2 October and published 5 October 2026 reports continued flooding, shelter and water constraints. For 23–30 September, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported 29 Palestinians killed and 147 injured. The Ministry’s cumulative reported toll since the 10 October 2025 ceasefire announcement was 1,431 fatalities and 5,026 injuries; OCHA says 81 fatalities were retroactively added after identification details were approved. Separately, the Site Management Cluster assessed more than 400 displacement sites and identified 217 at medium-to-high flood risk, hosting approximately 235,000 people. Preliminary Shelter Cluster estimates say more than 4,000 unsafe buildings require full or partial demolition; over 2,300 remain inhabited, sheltering nearly 44,000 people. OCHA’s report-level estimate is about 279,000 people in flood-prone sites or unsafe buildings, over 13 per cent of Gaza’s population; that aggregate is retained as reported and is not recalculated from the separate component estimates. OCHA also reports drinking-water supply concerns for approximately 500,000 people in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis and says 74 per cent of Gaza’s population relies on trucked drinking water.
The humanitarian situation across the Gaza Strip remained critical in August 2026, with ongoing military activity causing further casualties and displacement. OCHA reported that most people remained internally displaced in harsh living conditions. Between 5 and 12 August, seven Palestinians were reported killed and 28 injured, bringing the reported toll since the 10 October 2025 ceasefire announcement to 1,259 fatalities and 4,148 injuries. A July survey found that 90 percent of Gaza's population experienced moderate-to-high water insecurity, while humanitarian access and health services remained severely constrained.
