Situation
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia at 7:34 a.m. local time on 10 August 2026, with the epicentre near San José del Palmar in Chocó. IFRC's latest emergency page reports at least 176 deaths, thousands of injuries and families left without homes, clean water or medical care across 14 departments. Landslides and damaged roads isolated some of the worst-affected communities. Colombian Red Cross teams are carrying out search and rescue, first aid, family reunification, damage assessments and distributions of emergency shelter and relief supplies. IFRC launched a CHF 25 million Emergency Appeal to support approximately 24,000 people over 24 months. Human-impact figures remain provisional and may change as assessments and reconciliation continue.
