Flash floods deepen humanitarian needs across Afghanistan

Situation

Successive flash floods and landslides affected a wide belt of eastern and central Afghanistan in July and early August. Initial Red Crescent assessments recorded more than 910 affected families, 31 deaths, 11 injuries and 77 missing people. Homes, schools, roads, bridges, water systems and farmland were damaged across multiple provinces. A second flood in Barg-e-Matal district on 3 August affected another 191 families and further restricted access to safe water and essential services.
