Nepal floods and landslides leave more than 81,000 people affected

Situation
Exceptional rainfall on 27 and 28 September 2024 triggered severe flooding and landslides across Nepal. By UNICEF's 18 October situation update, Government estimates recorded 81,215 people affected, including 27,613 children, with 246 deaths and 183 injuries. Fifty-five children were among those killed. More than 10,000 homes, 62 health facilities, over 240 schools, 550 water-supply systems and 9,000 sanitation facilities were damaged or destroyed. Blocked roads disrupted access to Kathmandu Valley and essential services. UNICEF and government partners had reached more than 20,000 people with humanitarian supplies and services, while health, WASH, education, nutrition and child-protection needs remained significant.
