Situation

Armed violence, mass displacement, food insecurity and collapsing public services continue to drive a severe humanitarian emergency in Haiti. IOM's Round 13 assessment counted 1,466,862 internally displaced people as of May 2026, one percent more than the previous round; displacement in metropolitan Port-au-Prince exceeded 300,000 for the first time after renewed clashes in Cité Soleil. By early June, UNICEF reported that 2.8 million children required humanitarian assistance and nearly 5.7 million people were experiencing or expected to experience high levels of acute food insecurity. Around half of the displaced population are children. Education has also been heavily disrupted: more than 1,600 schools were reported closed during the 2024–25 academic year, affecting 7,500 teachers and more than 240,000 students. The United Nations verified 2,088 grave violations affecting 1,661 children during 2025, including the recruitment and use of 892 children by armed groups. More recent IOM event tracking recorded additional localized flight from violence, including 4,216 people from Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye between 28 and 31 July; these event figures form part of the evolving displacement picture and are not added to the national baseline. UNICEF is requesting USD 256.6 million in 2026 to assist 1.7 million people, including 1.2 million children. All figures retain their original reporting periods and remain subject to revision as access and population movements change.
