Situation
Armed groups attacked several localities in the Sourcailles communal section of Kenscoff, Haiti, during the night of 23 to 24 August 2026. OCHA's situation report records at least 47 people killed, including 22 people killed inside a church where they had sought refuge. Municipal authorities also reported 50 people abducted, gender-based violence and property destruction.
More than 4,238 people, representing 1,159 households, were displaced. About 80 per cent were sheltering with host families, while 20 per cent were living across six displacement sites: four pre-existing sites and two newly established sites. Six abducted children and seven women were subsequently released through negotiations supported by UNICEF and community partners.
The figures are a localized observation for the Kenscoff attacks and must not be added to Haiti's national displacement baseline. OCHA reports that humanitarian partners are coordinating a multisectoral response as insecurity continues to deteriorate.
