Situation

An avalanche struck Himlung Himal base camp in Manang, Nepal, on 27 September 2026 during severe weather. Nepal's Armed Police Force (APF) operational series reported 22 people in the affected area: 12 made contact, two bodies were airlifted and eight people remained unaccounted for. A later Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) expedition-sector update reported four bodies recovered and identified, with 12 expedition support staff still missing.

These authoritative series use different scopes and denominators. WorldsAid preserves both as published and does not merge, add or reconcile them into a single casualty total. Search and recovery work was continuing as weather and mountain conditions permitted.
