Updated verified snapshot

This record was first dated 2026-09-23 and last verified 2026-09-28.

Situation

Flooding associated with the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal affected southern Odisha in late September 2026. An officials-attributed DD India report on 28 September said more than 100,000 people had been moved from low-lying areas and sheltered in over 500 relief centres across 13 districts. In Balasore district, 67,266 people had been evacuated and more than 350,000 people were reported affected. The state-level relocation figure is an evacuation/movement observation, not a separately verified displaced-population count; Balasore’s affected-population figure is district-scoped and is not added to the statewide number. No casualty total is inferred.

WorldsAid verification

A WorldsAid editor reviewed this record against 1 attributed source, cleaned feed formatting and checked the crisis, place and reporting date. 6 human-impact figures were separated from the narrative and dated where the source allowed. Earlier observations remain in the evidence history instead of being silently overwritten.
