Situation
The New Caledonia was swept all day on Saturday, March 6 with more wind gusts of 200 km / h caused by Niran cyclone. The houses made of sheet metal are blown up in a few minutes and the ships are struggling to maintain themselves. Dozens of boats have run aground on the seaside. Getting around town has become impossible, the roads are impassable, strewn with uprooted trees. Power lines have been damaged and 39,000 homes are without electricity. The archipelago remains on maximum cyclone alert Despite the risks, some residents refuse to leave their homes: "I prefer to stay there, if I go to the center maybe when I come back I will see my house destroyed and that, I do not accept", confides a resident . Several hundred people have taken refuge in accommodation centers: " I do not feel safe, in my house all the ironwork is gone ", adds a resident who has taken refuge in a center. In total, two people were slightly injured. New Caledonia now fears the risks of flooding and submersion. The whole archipelago remains on maximum cyclonic alert.
