Hazardous ConditionsHurricane Nora will likely bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas to coastal areas in western Mexico through at least Sept. 2. Sustained heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in low-lying communities near streams, creeks, rivers, and urban areas with easily overwhelmed stormwater drainage systems. Sites located downstream of large reservoirs could experience flash flooding after relatively short periods of intense rainfall. Flooding could isolate some communities for several days. Forecast models indicate rainfall totals of 20-30 cm (8-12 inches) are likely over coastal sections of Mexico's Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco states through at least Aug. 29. Rainfall totals of 10-20 cm (4-8 inches) are forecast for southern parts of Baja California Sur from late Aug. 29 to Aug. 30. Locally higher totals are possible.
